The Report

I will be talking about the Mohawk tribe of the Iroquois, they have a long tribe description of how there life has went through. So they have a long, long history of what they have had, and done. They have many methods of making to capture animals and prey to eat and not starve as quick so that they have enough to eat. there history is very mysterious in some places.

The name "Mohawk" is meaning "People Of The Flint" they are indigenous people of the Mohawk Valley. The places they also might be living today are upstate New York, Quebec, and Ontario. Most of there settlements are at Lake Ontario, and at St. Lawnrence River, around Canada. There homeland is from the Mowhawk River, to the Green Mountains of vermont, the Mowhawk were known as "Keepers Of Eastern Door" where they guarded the Iroqouis Condfederation against of any invasion or attack. Soon after European settlements were their after they have sailed to the the Hudson River, then found Albany New York in the early 17th century.

Men, and Women at the tribe had jobs in the Mowhawk tribe, the Men were in charge of hunting, trading, and war. Women were in charge of farming, property, and family. These responsibilities were made by the Mohawk government. All Mowhawk clans were manged, and controled all clans, they were also the ones that made the land and resources descisions for there clans. There were Mowhawk Chiefs that made the millatary, and trade agreements which were men so that the clan will go as well as it should. Only Men represented Mowhawks at the Iroqouis Council.

The traditional clothing for the Mowhawk is, Men would wore breechclothes with leggings, Women wore wraparound skirts which were named overdress. Both would usually wore moccasins on thier feet. Around the colonial times the Mowhawk would adopt European clothes deocrating the clothes with beads, and ribbon aplique. The Mowhawk didn't were long headdresses like the Sioux, the men of the Mowhawk wore traditional head dresses of the iroquois, which were feathered caps with 3 feathers on top. Women would sometimes wore beaded tiarras on there heads.

The Mowhawk were known for alot of things, mostly for face masks carvings, they have alot of bead work on them, and work very well. They have made wampum out of white beads, and shells out of them for art work. Wampum beads were traded as a currency, but they were really worn for cultraily inportant times. Sometimes the necklaces and beads worn for there family to remeber them. The beads might have a symbol on them which tells a story in there part of there family to remember them. They would tell others about there histrory through the day, and it would help understand each story made through the Wampum shells and beads.

The children at the time of the Mowhawk were just like us, they play, go to school, and help around home. Alot of Mowhawk children would help there fathers hunting, and go fishing with them. In the Mowhawk times children didn't have anytime for play, but had more time for chores, and helping there father and mothers. Children at the Mowhawk times did have toys like we do, Mowhawk girls had Mohawk dolls made of cornhusk for strong, tuff reparing for not alot of breaking happening to others as well. The Mowhawk boys would play games where they tried to throw a dart through a moving hoop.

This is all about all of the Mowhwak tribe of what they have done through there lifetime. The most i have talked about was the clans and how were they made thorugh the women which were the captain of the clans. The children did not have alot much to do but had to do chores for helping there mothers and fathers for less hard work to happen.
